DIY felt carrot craft for kids with wooden bunny toy

Creative Easter Activities with Rocking Baby Birds + Merrywood Tales Bunny Carrot Patch

Easter is a wonderful time to slow down, spend time together, and enjoy creative play with your children. If you’re looking for Easter crafts for kids, combining simple making activities with sustainable wooden toys creates a magical experience that encourages imagination and storytelling.

At Tender Leaf Toys, we design beautiful, ethically manufactured wooden toys that inspire children to create their own stories. But we believe toys should spark creativity beyond the playroom too. That’s why we share free children’s craft activities designed by our creative director—who is also a teacher—to help children build little worlds around their toys.

In this blog we’re sharing two simple Easter craft projects for children aged 4+, designed to pair perfectly with two of our favourite toys:

Both activities are simple enough for a 4-year-old with a little help from a parent, and perfect for Easter holiday crafting at home.

A springtime mobile craft

This simple spring craft uses a free printable bird template to create an easy hanging mobile.

Start with a Short Walk

Before you begin, take a quick walk to find a stick. Look for one that is fairly straight and sturdy, around 30–40cm long. This makes the activity feel more hands-on and gives children a reason to explore outdoors.

What You’ll Need

  • Free printable bird templates
  • Card or thick paper
  • Scissors
  • String or twine
  • A stick
  • Tape or glue

How to Make It

  1. Print and cut out the birds. (We used a soft yellow sugar paper in our printer for a lovely natural look!)
  2. Tie the strings onto the stick at different lengths.
  3. Add a longer piece of string to hang it up.

Hang the finished mobile where it can move slightly and enjoy your simple spring decoration.

This craft was inspired by the Rocking Baby Birds wooden balancing toy, a wooden balancing set that includes 6 colourful birds and 5 different coloured eggs. The original toy is designed to help young children practise balancing skills and is suitable for ages 18 months+.
